Itinerary
Early in the morning you leave Fes and start your journey toward the Sahara desert. The road passes through wide landscapes, small towns, and mountain areas. As you go south, the land slowly changes from green areas to dry open spaces. One of the main highlights of this day is the Ziz valley, a long valley filled with thousands of palm trees and small villages built along the river. You stop for photos and enjoy the strong contrast between green palms and brown desert hills. After lunch on the road, you continue driving until you reach Merzouga, a small town at the edge of the Sahara. In the afternoon you prepare for a camel ride. You ride your camel into the high sand dunes while the sun sets and the sky changes colors. The ride is calm and slow, giving you time to enjoy the silence of the desert. When you arrive at the desert camp, you are welcomed with tea. You enjoy dinner, sit around the fire, listen to desert music, and look at the stars. You sleep in a comfortable desert tent surrounded by sand and silence.
After breakfast in the camp, you leave by jeep to explore the desert area. You drive through sand dunes, dry riverbeds, and open desert land. You visit nomad families who live in tents far from towns. You sit with them, drink tea, and learn about their simple daily life in the desert. You continue the tour to small villages around Merzouga and stop in Khamlia village, known for Gnawa music. Here you enjoy live music played with drums and singing, which comes from African desert traditions. The music creates a warm and happy feeling. After the tour, you return to Merzouga town. In the afternoon you check into a hotel where you can shower, relax, and enjoy a quiet evening. You spend the night in the hotel.
After breakfast you leave Merzouga and start the journey back to Fes. You drive through desert landscapes, palm valleys, and mountain roads. You have stops along the way to rest, enjoy views, and have lunch. As you travel north, the scenery slowly changes again from dry desert land to greener mountain areas. You arrive in Fes in the late afternoon or evening, where your driver drops you at your hotel or the airport according to your plan. This marks the end of a short but unforgettable desert experience.
